I have been wanted to trail run in sandals for a while. I couldn't find any barefoot sandals in my local stores. So after watching way too many YouTube videos, I decided to give the Alpha Black Bear 5mm a try. My first run was a total success. I enjoy feeling the earth and allowing my feet the ability to spread out all while getting great air flow. Also, rocks and other debris that make their way into the sandal seem to find their way out just a quickly, not needing to stop, remove, and repeat.
They are also nice to just wear in while around town. The adjustable straps are great to for a tight fit for running but also a nice loose fit just hanging out.
It did take almost a month to get the sandals. It didn't bother me because I knew I was supporting a small business. But, just keep this in mind if you're hoping to order on Tuesday to have them for Friday's camping trip.
I've been looking for a barefoot sandal option now and have tried a couple different brands. However, Toetem sandals are in a whole other class. There is no competition. Pick up a pair for yourself, you'll thank me.
I am very happy with my purchase. The leather is super SOFT and comfortable. The adjustable straps are convenient and do not irritate my feet.
I love the look and materials of the sandals but have been struggling to dial in the fit/foot position. If I strap them to a secure but comfortable setting I find that my toes move too far to the inside of the sandal and my big toe starts to hang off the edge after walking. The sandal feels great in this situation but my foot is just not quite in the right place. I can get things aligned but the toe strap ends up being really tight. All feet are different and I think I would need the toe strap location about 1/4" farther to the outside of the sandal for them to be perfect for me (size 9 EW and I normally wear a 9/42).
I got these Thursday (5/9) and I have been wearing them ever since. They mold to my feet perfectly and give me secure fit! I’ve owned chacos and earth runners for awhile, and I definitely prefer Toetems over the two. The ease of adjustment is an awesome feature as well!
